What's This All About?
I'm going to blame this next adventure on our friend and current Team LUNA Chix teammate Kathy... She came up with the idea that we should do the 2010 BC Bike Race.
If you don't know what it is, it'sa 7-Day Stage Race through the Vancouver area. At first, we all thought it as a terrible idea, sounded painful, difficult, intimidating, too technical, too long...a whole myriad reasons why it was simply an awful idea. Then we went to the website.
Start in Vancouver, to Nanaimo, Cumberland, Earl's Cover, Sechelt, Langdale, Squamish and finally Whistler, B.C. It includes Northshore, the Test of Metal course in Squamish, and finally Whistler. Sweetest rides in Canada...beautiful ferry rides, extremely well supported, best damn single track darn near anywhere???? Really???? We were intrigued.
The statistics are scary:
7 Days - 6 Nights
257 miles of riding
38,027 feet of elevation gain
Average Miles/Day: 37 Miles
Longest Day: 43.50 Miles
Average Elevation Gain/Day: 5432 Feet
Most Elevatin Gain in 1 Day: 6900 Feet
We read it all, we read the maps, and then we thought, huh....maybe we could do this. The next thought was "what would it take"? Training, training, and more training was the answer. Katie, Virginia and I decided that we'd give it a go. We decided we would step away from Team LUNA Chix at the end of the season, we'd start training, and we'd make it happen. Kathy's decided to join us as well so we're super excited to still get to hang with for next season and through the winter.
Now we're in search of a sponsor...the race is expensive and now we'd like to find an organization to represent. Training begins in earnest in September ...
Next year's - as of yet unnamed team - will consist of Katie Jackson, Virginia Matthys, Kathy Malvern and myself, Susan Clementson. Angela Sucich (Voodoo Racing) will will join us for the BC Bike Race as well. We'll train, we'll race, we'll ride, we'll keep fundraising for the Breast Cancer Fund, but we have a goal...a BIG goal!
If you would like to gift cash towards race fees, we'd LOVE it! If you know a potential sponsor, please send us their info!
More later! Out into the sun for now!
Hope to see you on the trails soon!
