Sturdy Bitches at Race #2 in the Budu Series

The weather held (hallelujah!) today for the 2nd race in the Budu Racing Series.  Four team members headed out to the small town of Black Diamond to a trail system called Lake Sawyer.   Lots going on in the area as far as trails go.  Part of the land (east side of 169) was sold to a church and a few trails have been closed.  There is good though that has come out of it as the church is pro-mountain biker and is working with Evergreen and local mountain bikers to continue the trails.  Angela also wrote a great article on the area so check that out as well.  http://angelarides.wordpress.com/2010/01/25/trail-work-party-diamonds-in-the-rough-get-smoother-every-day-black-diamond-wa/

The course was a short course, beginners did 3 laps (unless you got lapped), sport/SS did 4 laps (3 if you got lapped) and expert did 5 (4 if you got lapped).  There were only a few big hills, just a couple of short steeps but the course was very technical with twisty single track covered in babyheads.  Yup - babyheads - rocks the size of - you guessed it - a baby's head.  A few roots, rocks, a little bit of fire road which made for good passing lanes.

Katie, Jodi and Virginia raced expert and all were doing well right up until the point Virginia broke a chain.  As she was prepping to fix it, the unbroken master link popped off into the bushes so unfortunately she had (what we hope) her DNF of the season.  Jodi and Katie finished up the race in 2nd place in their age brackets.  Susan (yup, that's me) took 1st in the sport class.  Another great race (other than that darn chain) for the Sturdy Bitches.  Well done ladies and always fun to see everyone!
