Budu Race #1 & 2

The season is off to a good start with the weather.  Two weeks ago, Marie, Ady and I headed out to Dash Point in Federal Way for a cold but dry (except for a few mud holes) race.  Had a great time at race #1 in the Budu Series .  Got a 3rd place medal that day.

Race # 2 was out at Black Diamond on the east side of the road on the New Life Church trails.  The area was sold a few years back to the church and we are thankful that they embraced the mountain bike culture and allowed the trails to remain on the property.  In addition to keeping some of the existing trails, they also allowed a new freeride park to be built which is just amazing.

We avoided the rain and snow yet again (sure Race #3 will now be pouring and a mud bog) and it was a balmy 41 degrees when Katie started her ride in expert class.  The rest of us got organized, did some pre-rides, ate a little food and cheered her through her first lap.

There wasn't much climbing, we started with a half mile of really mild road climbing and dropped into some fun berms and descents.  There were so many twists and turns that you could see 30 people in front of you but they weren't really as close as expected.  Lots of roots, short steep ups, and a fun creek crossing made for a great technical race but apparently a few mechanicals too.  We heard of a number of broken chains, saw a broken crank, and I'm sure there were a  few other mechanical mishaps throughout the day.

All in all it was a fun race with the 6 Sturdy Bitches bringing home some hardware with a 1st in Expert, one in Sport, as well as a 2nd and 3rd in sport class.  Good job Bitches!!

Post-ride we headed over to the Swinging Arm pub for some good Georgetown Porter - gotta support those sponsors and local business too! We are loving the new jerseys (though there was a snafu on the short sleeves) so HUGE thanks to our sponsors, Sturdy Bitch ,  MDJ Racing, Diamondback Bikes , Big Tree Bikes , and Georgetown Beer .

Was great to see everyone out, always good to see the race community out in full force having a blast!

See you all on the trails soon!
